I am interested in machine learning and digital signal processing, its interplay with mathematics and statistics and its applications to speech processing. I have experience applying Hidden Markov Models to solve problems such as pathological voice detection. Currently I conduct research on atypical speech analysis and enhancement, centering the attention in whispered speech analysis for applications related to identity management and reconstruction of normal speech from whispers. Additionally, I also have experience working with several layers of speech processing and different speech modalities, including whispered, affective, depressed, and pathological speech. My programming experience is mostly in Matlab, C and Python as these are the preferred programing languages for scientist and companies working in development of new technologies, besides there are plenty available tools for data analysis, pattern recognition, and signal processing using these programing languages. I am also interested in extending methods from speech based biometrics to other physiological signals for biomedical applications such as assisted diagnosis.
